Pricing

Most routine cuts in Margate fall in the £120 – £400 range depending on hedge length, height, and how much access I need. Cliftonville terrace boundaries sit at the lower end (short but fiddly on-street parking); Westbrook and Garlinge boundary hedges at the upper. Fixed price after photos and postcode — no surprises on the day, no charge if the quote isn't accepted.

The best window depends on what you're growing and where it sits relative to the salt line. My default cadence:

• Formal front boundaries (Griselinia, Escallonia, Elaeagnus, privet, Leylandii, hornbeam) — two cuts a year: late May / early June (post-nest-check) and late August / early September
• Pre-holiday-let tidy for STR owners — rolling Jun–Aug turnover trims fit either side of the main cuts
• Yew, holly — single late-August cut; a hard clip once a year, resentful of more
• Cherry laurel — late summer; bruises easily, so secateurs and loppers on visible faces where time allows
• Native mixed (hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel) — winter only (September to February) to comply with nesting law
• Storm-damage clearance — Sept–Feb baseline; Thanet caught Storm Ciarán 2023 badly, so this is a genuine seasonal beat

What I don't do on cutting jobs

If a hedge needs more than a routine cut — overgrown, gappy, leaning, salt-burned across the top — that's a reduction job, not a cut. I'll tell you that at quote stage rather than do a botched cut and pretend it solved the problem.
